Nominal and effective interest rate
Nominal interest is the basic rate; effective interest gives a fuller cost picture.
The nominal interest rate is the stated rate on the mortgage. The effective interest rate also reflects timing of payments and certain additional costs. It can therefore give a more complete picture of the real cost of the mortgage.
